Grab Your Free Tickets for ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ at Marcus Garvey Park

HARLEM, N.Y. (PIX11) – If you love Shakespeare in the Park, this could be a tough summer since the Delacorte Theater in Central Park is closed for renovations.

But take heart! Because there’s a really fun, uptown version of “ A Midsummer Night’s Dream ” opening this weekend in Marcus Garvey Park, along with Jazzmobile concerts and a popup Harlem Night Market.

They were toasting with a mocktail called A Midsummer Night’s Dream from the Cultural Apothecary Campbell and Carr.

At this popup Harlem Night Market in Marcus Garvey Park, there will be free samples for all to enjoy, including Love Potion No. 99 and Enchanted Forest.

Another popup, Lizzie‘s Treats NYC included a soulful cupcake that sounds so delicious.

“The soulful cupcake is a cornbread muffin stuffed with candied yams and fried chicken,” Jacqueline Stevens, the owner of Lizzy’s Treats, told PIX11 News.

Another favorite, Omo sade, West African skin care, included Shea butter African bathing soap, a redwood bark mask, and lavender oil.

“Organic products that people make by hand, and I import them,” Folosade Tyler, the owner of Omo Sade, told PIX11 News. “I want you to show Americans what Africans make to keep your skin healthy even in your 60s,” she said with a smile.

As Jazzmobile celebrates its 60th anniversary in Harlem, the group was dancing near the stage as the Allan Harris sextet performed.

“Founded by Dr. Billy Taylor, he had this wonderful idea to bring free jazz programming into the Harlem community, particularly Marcus Garvey Park,” Robin Bell-Stevens, the director and executive producer of Jazzmobile, told PIX11 News.

The downpours didn’t stop the final dress rehearsal of Classical Theatre of Harlem’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

As this nonprofit celebrates its 25th anniversary, its mission is to bring classics to the community in this version of Shakespeare, combining jazz-inspired dancing and the Harlem Renaissance.

“We all know that our friends downtown in Central Park don’t have any dedicated theater to perform in this summer,” Ty Jones, producing artistic director of Classical Theatre of Harlem, told PIX11 News. So Classical Theatre of Harlem’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, “it’ll be the show to see this summer,” he added.
