Parts of the tri-state issued heat advisory with hot, sticky weather

NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) — A heat advisory has been issued from 10 a.m. Friday to 8 p.m. Saturday for parts of the tri-state area.

A heat advisory is issued when the combination of heat and humidity is expected to feel like it is over 100 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

There may be lingering showers on Saturday as temperatures climb to the upper 90s. Heat index values could be as high as 100, according to the NWS.

Several areas could continue to linger in the 90s, especially on Sunday and Monday. Coastal locations will be a bit cooler. In addition, a front will approach the tri-state area and stall over the five boroughs. Because of that, the threat of showers and storms will be in place. No all-day rain events are expected, though.

Tropical Update: Beryl has weakened into a tropical storm over the Yucatan Peninsula but is still packing winds of 65 mph.

Over the weekend, the storm is expected to make its way over the open waters of the Gulf of Mexico, re-strengthen into a Category 1 hurricane, and make landfall near the southern tip of Texas Sunday night into Monday morning.
