NYC ice cream truck explodes after Post report on company gouging customers, prompting conspiracy theories: ‘This is a hit’

An ice cream truck that is part of the company hawking overpriced cones exploded in flames this week in Astoria — sparking wild conspiracy theories and jokes about who may have wanted to burn the frosty vendor.
Three weeks after The Post revealed locals’ outrage over the company’s wallet-busting $14 waffle cones, a bubblegum pink New York Ice Cream truck burned to a crisp on 21st Street and Astoria Boulevard, according to the FDNY.

“This is a hit,” one Facebook user joked after Monday’s blaze, alluding to The Post’s exposé last month detailing how an NYIC truck was gouging customers in Astoria Park, less than a 10-minute walk away from the fiery scene.
“Immediately I thought it was related to turf wars,” a Reddit user chimed in, referring to the years-long rivalry between NYIC and vendor Mister Softee that has escalated to Mafia-like intimidation and violent threats.
