It’s a story of fire and ice cream.

An ice cream truck that is part of the company hawking overpriced cones exploded in flames this week in Astoria — sparking wild conspiracy theories and jokes about who may have wanted to burn the frosty vendor.

Three weeks after The Post revealed locals’ outrage over the company’s wallet-busting $14 waffle cones, a bubblegum pink New York Ice Cream truck burned to a crisp on 21st Street and Astoria Boulevard, according to the FDNY.

“This is a hit,” one Facebook user joked after Monday’s blaze, alluding to The Post’s exposé last month detailing how an NYIC truck was gouging customers in Astoria Park, less than a 10-minute walk away from the fiery scene.

“Immediately I thought it was related to turf wars,” a Reddit user chimed in, referring to the years-long rivalry between NYIC and vendor Mister Softee that has escalated to Mafia-like intimidation and violent threats.

“Hopefully this is just an accident and not the Ice Cream Truck Wars Volume 2,” another Reddit commenter snarked.

The FDNY poured water on the conspiracy theories Friday, saying the blaze was caused by an accidental fire in the van’s engine compartment.

New York Ice Cream did not respond to a request for comment.
