Knicks Owner Describes Future Of NBA With Two Frightening Words

    By Gerard Angelo Samillano,

James Dolan is not a happy camper. The NBA has signed a new media rights deal worth over $74.6 billion. However, the league has faced criticism over its new revenue-sharing model. The most prominent critic of this model is Dolan, the owner of the New York Knicks.

In a letter to the NBA's Board of Governors, Dolan addressed the league's revenue-sharing model. The Knicks owner did not hold back in his statement, calling out the NBA in a professional manner and predicting that, given the new direction, the league will become a 'characterless organization,' much like the NFL.

Adrian Wojnarowski reported this letter to ESPN.

“The NBA has made the move to an NFL model...We are well on our way to becoming a one-size-fits-all, characterless organization. Just remember we did this on the backs of owners like Jerry Buss," Dolan said in his letter.

The NBA's new media rights deal places a heavy emphasis on new streaming services. While that favors many parties, regional sports networks are getting phased out. In the Knicks' owner's own words, RSNs are going to become "unviable".

Dolan has been a constant critic of this revenue-sharing deal, so this is not exactly surprising. It remains to be seen if other teams will take a stand with the Knicks owner.
