NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — A machete-wielding man was shot by police responding to a domestic dispute Wednesday night in the Bronx, according to the NYPD.

It happened at approximately 10:17 p.m., on the sixth floor of an apartment building in the vicinity of 2385 Third Ave. in Mott Haven, officials said.

Upon arrival, responding officers encountered a 24-year-old man in a dispute with another person while holding a large machete.

According to police, the man was given multiple commands to drop the weapon, but he refused to do so and lunged at officials with the machete. Officers then deployed a taser unsuccessfully before firing one shot from their service weapon and striking the man in the left arm.

The man was transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln in stable condition.

Officers were also transported to the same hospital to be evaluated for tinnitus.

Police recovered a machete on scene and the investigation remains ongoing.
