    Global tech outage causing disruptions at New York City, New Jersey airports

    NEW YORK (PIX11) — Air travelers were met with the blue screen of terror at airports across New York City and New Jersey Friday morning.

    The global technology outage as announced by cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike grounded dozens of flights out of Newark Liberty Airport, John F. Kennedy Airport, and LaGuardia Airport.

    Approximately 187 flights were delayed and 57 were canceled, as of about 11 a.m., according to the website FlightAware.

    Delta, American Airlines and United Airlines saw the most cancellations and delays, as multiple airlines issued ground stops nationwide.

    • Delta – 505
    • American Airlines – 315
    • United Airlines – 233

    Delayed Nationwide

    • Delta – 676
    • American Airlines – 483
    • United Airlines – 546

    Delta assured they would keep customers updated with text messages regarding their flights and also advised travelers to check the app for any updates, according to a statement to PIX11.

    Meanwhile United said they would resume some flights but expect disruptions to continue throughout Friday. To help travelers, they’re issuing waivers for customers to change their travel plans through the United app and online.

    American Airlines said they re-established operations as of 5 a.m., while Delta resumed flights a little after 10 a.m.
