Readers sound off on losing water, soliciting donations and the party conventions

Why don’t our neighborhood’s issues make news?
Manhattan: I live in Washington Heights in one of four 31-story high-rises that New Yorkers see when coming across the George Washington Bridge. I woke up Thursday morning before 6 a.m. and there was no water. I could not flush the toilet. Kitchen sink, bathroom tub, shower and sink made that sucking noise when only air fills the pipe.
I called my management company (they do a pretty good job) and they told me that due to a really bad mistake during an overnight underground repair, tens of thousands of us have not had water for at least five hours, probably more. No news organization is reporting this. Tenants, landlords, management companies — we are at the mercy of the city, which made a horrendous mistake that means people can’t flush their toilets, run cold water, take a drink, shower or bathe.
I broke my toe recently. I am 60. It hurts to walk. Luckily, I have a pitcher of water to hydrate. I live in a predominantly Black and Latin neighborhood that is often ignored. It is predominantly Dominican. I love the neighborhood’s vibe and the friendliness of my neighbors. In my building, folks hold the doors for each other and say “hola,” “hello,” “buenos dias” or “good morning” every day to each other.
News organizations tend to forget about us. Generally, we are working class, Black and Latino. Most of us have connections to the Dominican Republic, which is why if you look on a subway map, our little piece of Manhattan is nicknamed “Little Dominican Republic.” Please don’t forget us. Please cover this story. Tony Glover
Monied interests
Cambria Heights: Re “ Say yes to the Yes ” (editorial, July 12): Say a resounding no to the Yes, people! How dare you print such garbage (probably written by the mayor or one of his parasitic hangers-on). Staten Island’s got it right — no! We have a right to decide what happens in our communities. We voted you in, we will vote you out! You have gone beyond an abuse of power, ignoring the will of the people. Community Board officers selected by the City Council, borough presidents who ignore the voices of their constituencies — the list of abuses of power goes on! We’ve allowed our lives — indeed, our and our families’ futures — to be determined by the few who have power (money). There will soon be no middle class! Only the rich and the rest of us. Terri Gilbert

Rocky Point, L.I.: First, we had a men’s league. Then, in time, we had a women’s league. Now is the time to have a transgender league. Problem solved. Al Glass
Overlapped stats
Flushing: I love the agate pages featuring sports scores in The News, but the box score for the MLB All-Star Game in recent editions blew my mind — whoever did the tabulations added what occurred during the game to the players’ regular season stats! The All-Star Game is an exhibition event, it’s not part of the regular season and never has been. How in the name of Marv Throneberry could this happen in the best sports section in New York? I’m flabbergasted. Robert Smith
Major-league minor team?
Somers, N.Y.: Does the Daily News know that there are two baseball teams in New York? For three recent days, there were three articles covering the Yankees but not one about the Mets. The articles talk about how the Yankees have to turn things around in the second half. How about discussing the other team and its need to continue its surge toward a possible playoff birth? Does The News have a Mets beat reporter? If so, where is that person? Please try to even out the coverage so us Mets fans have something to read. Michael Gold
Uncharitable taking
Manhattan: Here is an ode to the memory of Sam Kinison, comedian extraordinaire. Some advice for the entities soliciting around-the-clock donations — coincidentally, all for about $19/month, or 63 cents a day: Keep your tote bags, blankets and T-shirts. You are all collectively a part of the army of enablers that do nothing but pull on the heartstrings of primarily retirees who postpone the inevitable. If it were up to me, I would hire a few NRA types to ride the circuit and put an end to suffering permanently. If Russia can decimate schools and Israel can level entire hospitals full of women and children by uttering the word Hamas, non-human animals, sick and hungry, ought to pose no problem. If you do not wish to become a part of the solution, squander your money on administrative costs and sate your conscience with dollars to your heart’s content, and do not be surprised when the “problem” persists. Aydin Torun
By God’s grace
Yonkers: To Voicer Gary Stein: In your cowardly letter about the attempted assassination of Donald Trump, you sound disappointed that the assassin missed his mark. You may consider the near miss to be karma, but those of us with faith truly believe that only by the grace of God, Trump is still with us. And Trump’s reaction after being struck by the bullet shows him to be a man of great courage. At the same moment, firefighter Corey Comperatore sacrificed his own life protecting his children. The entire nation and world witnessed these acts of bravery. Courage is what has made America what it is, and the envious tone of your narrative leaves one to believe it is a trait you don’t possess. You show no respect for the former president when you refer to him as “Little Donny” and “dude.” But how could you respect anyone when you can hardly respect yourself? Nicholas Maffei
New rules
Staten Island: The fact that God miraculously intervened to spare Donald Trump’s life from an assassin’s bullet is undeniable proof that Trump has been chosen by the Almighty to spread His message on Earth. All that stuff about loving thy neighbor was a mistake and will now be stricken from the scripture. The Ten Commandments are not commandments at all, they are merely suggestions, and in view of the examples set by the new messiah, prohibitions against lying, cheating, stealing, adultery and rape, etc. are no longer in effect. Ralph D’Esposito
Wasn’t us
Brooklyn: To Voicer James League: The left did not “draw first blood” — MAGA did on Jan. 6! And to League and Voicer Michael Pravica: Stop blaming half of the population for the horrific act of a young, mentally unfit registered Republican. No sane person of any affiliation would condone such violence. Susan Cassano
Biblical hubris
Brooklyn: After listening to the speeches at the Republican convention, I have just one opinion: We, in the land of the brave and free, are no better than the people of biblical Nineveh. I have to agree that we have more than six-score-thousand persons who cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand. We may as well close all the schools, especially those of so-called higher learning. Shirley Forde
Strategic guests
Brooklyn: To the Democratic National Committee: I hope you are planning to bring those who were hurt and the families of those killed on Jan. 6 to the convention. June Lowe
False statements
Brooklyn: To all the journalists, pundits and politicians who repeatedly testified that President Biden was “sharp as a tack” behind closed doors: We have watched your noses grow every day for the last three and a half years. Frank Congiusta
Gender objection
Montebello, N.Y.: Re “ Who to know if Joe should go ” (July 7): You claim that everybody who has reservations over Kamala Harris or Gretchen Whitmer serving as president is a woman-hating misogynist. This from a Democratic Party that supports both radical Islam and biological men competing unfairly against women. I have no problem with a competent woman serving as president of the United States as long as she is Republican, not a Democrat. Wallington Simpson
