An early morning dispute outside Rudy’s Bar and Grill on 9th Avenue resulted in two men being hospitalized. Police are asking for help in identifying a man who was riding a moped on the sidewalk who allegedly punched the victims.

At lunchtime today, police were still cordoning off the area outside the Hell’s Kitchen dive bar and surrounding businesses (including M&Pizza, Poseidon Bakery, and Turkish Cuisine) as detectives investigated the incident.

NYPD officers responded to a 911 call at 2:47am Tuesday, placed at 629 9th Avenue (between W44/45th St). A 38-year-old male and a 56-year-old male, both victims, had sustained injuries to the head.

Police say that an unidentified male was riding a moped on the sidewalk in front of 627 9th Avenue when he bumped a 56-year-old male standing on the sidewalk. An argument ensued, and the unidentified male punched the victim in the face, knocking him out. When the victim’s 38-year-old friend attempted to intervene, he was also punched in the face, rendering him unconscious too.

EMS responded and both men were transported to local hospitals.

NYPD Crime Stoppers released a video of the man they are looking for in connection with the incident at Rudy’s. Video: NYPD

The 38-year-old is reported to be in critical condition in NYC Health and Hospitals/Bellevue, and the 56-year-old is stable in Mount Sinai West. The unidentified male fled the scene on a black moped. There have been no arrests so far and an investigation is ongoing.

At midday on Tuesday, all businesses remained open, although customers had to request access through the taped off sidewalk.
