Residents say that a block lining Claremont Park has become a trash-filled dumping ground. Much of the trash appears to be construction or moving-related, with whole slabs of tile, what appears to be part of a wall - and even pieces of furniture are strewn across the entire block on Clay Avenue by Belmont Street. One Bronx resident tells News 12 that he’s been making calls for weeks but has had no luck bringing a solution to the neighborhood. “This week is going to be a month that this trash has not been picked up,” said community resident and advocate Sidney Flores. “I have it to 311 twice and I’m still waiting for some action either from Parks or Department of Sanitation… all the tree pits have illegal garbage dumping and nobody cleans it up." The city’s Department of Sanitation tells News 12 that there isn’t a previous history of illegal dumping in the area but that they do come to clean when resources are available. The NYC Parks Department provided the following statement: "We are experiencing a high level of illegal dumping at this location and are working to remove the debris as soon as possible. These impacts on our park system are unfortunate and we urge New Yorkers to refrain from illegally dumping trash in their parks." "
