An MTA bus crashed into a Burger King on Fort Hamilton Parkway overnight, causing extensive damage and leaving the bus driver in critical condition. The incident occurred just after midnight at the fast-food restaurant at the intersection of Fort Hamilton Parkway and Dahill Road. The bus remained lodged inside the restaurant for several hours before it was finally pulled out earlier this morning. Surveillance footage captured the moment the bus appeared to lose control. According to a passenger, the bus began picking up speed moments before crashing into the building.
Passengers say the driver appeared to suffer a medical episode. One rider says she performed CPR on the operator until first responders arrived. Several emergency crews responded to the scene including the NYPD, FDNY, and Department of Buildings. Fortunately, the two passengers on board walked away without injuries. However, police say the bus operator was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. The restaurant was left with extensive damage as the front part of the building was torn apart. The Burger King restaurant was closed at the time of the incident. A vacate order has now been issued for the establishment. "
