Jets' Garrett Wilson responds to perceived slight from 49ers' Charvarius Ward

As noted by Tristi Rodriguez of NBC Sports Bay Area, San Francisco 49ers cornerback Charvarius Ward seemed to fire a shot during a May appearance on the "Up & Adams Show with Kay Adams" when he acted like he did not know the name of New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson.

Wilson responded to Ward's comment while speaking with reporters on Wednesday.

"I saw it. That’s cool," Wilson said, per Brian Costello of the New York Post. "...It’s all good. I ain’t done nothing yet. I’m excited to have the opportunity to do it on them, get it rolling, right? That’s just how it is. Any opponent we play, that’s the mindset."

Wilson undeniably felt frustrated throughout much of the 2023 campaign after quarterback Aaron Rodgers went down with a torn Achilles four offensive snaps into New York's regular-season opener last September.

Rodgers seemingly is on track to start the Jets' Week 1 matchup at the 49ers on Sept. 9, and Wilson indicated on Wednesday he'll need no extra juice for that "Monday Night Football" encounter.

"If you’ve got to get motivated like that then what about the week ain’t no one says your name, right? So, I’m not a [bulletin] board guy," Wilson said, according to Andy Vasquez of NJ Advance Media for NJ.com.

Assuming Rodgers can stay healthy through February 2025, the clash at Levi's Stadium could prove to be an early Super Bowl LIX preview. The Jets possess a championship-caliber defense, while the 49ers will be pursuing a second straight Super Bowl trip after they fell to the Kansas City Chiefs this past February.

"They have a scouting report and they take their notes and they’re good at their job, too," Wilson added about San Francisco's defense. "So if that’s their analysis of me as a player, of anyone as a player, they’re fair. They’re entitled to their opinion. But I’m excited, man. I’m really just excited to get the opportunity to prove [to the] world what we can do here in New York, and what I can do, because I agree, I ain’t done nothing. I got to go prove to the world I can be who I think I am."

History suggests neither Wilson nor Ward will be shy about sharing their feelings regarding the showdown that will take place on the second Monday of September. In short, fans may want to ready themselves for an interesting war of words involving the two players over the next month or so.
