Let’s begin on the New York baseball scene.

Starting in Queens, Pete Alonso had an interesting reaction to a question about having a bit of a down season compared to his past years.

Alonso cited being on pace for close to 40 home runs and being an All-Star this season.

Was that the right way to respond to the question? Will Alonso’s next two months with the Mets determine what kind of deal he gets from them or another team in the offseason?

In The Bronx, Gleyber Torres was pulled from the game Friday for not hustling out a ball out of the box that he hit off the wall.

A White Sox sell-off could plunge franchise into historic futility

What usually would be a double ended up being just a long single. He then ended up being thrown out at the plate trying to score on an Anthony Volpe double.

Aaron Boone ended up pulling him before the fourth inning. Did Boone make the right call and was his explanation right?

And finally, former Mets outfielder Tommy Pham was traded from the White Sox to the Cardinals at the trade deadline last week.

Pham goes from the worst team in the sport to a team hanging around in the NL Wild Card race. Pham is always a great quote and very good with the media.

White Sox will be MLB trade deadline gold mine for buyers

So it’s Alonso, Torres, Mets, Yankees and a conversation with Tommy Pham this week on a busy episode of “The Show” with Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman.

“The Show” podcast with Joel Sherman & Jon Heyman:
    • STARTING PITCHING: Across the league, starting pitching is struggling. Injuries and attrition are the equalizers. Don’t think it has to do with the schedule. Injuries have been rampant, especially among the top starting pitchers in baseball.
    • PETE ALONSO: Reacting to Alonso’s quote on Monday about having a down season, but not believing the same. His slash line with runners in scoring position has been very bad. He should not have cited his home run pace or making the All-Star Game. He should have said something better. He’s not having a great year, but has had a good career.
    • GLEYBER TORRES: Reacting to the benching of Torres over the weekend after not running hard. Was Aaron Boone’s explanation fair? Will Torres be gone from the Yankees after the season? The Yankees are held to a high standard.

    Tommy Pham Interview:
    Cardinals outfielder
    • BEING TRADED MULTIPLE TIMES: Last year was unexpected, because didn’t think Mets would be in that position. This year was different. Knew the White Sox would be sellers. Downsize on apartment and pack differently. Your whole living situation and mindset is different.
    • TRADE TO CARDINALS: The fans make it special. The fans love their Cardinals. Was a bit surprised it ended up being the Cardinals. Things changed during the season. The Dodgers, Phillies and Braves were also interested in trading for him. Was open to go to any team.
    • WHITE SOX STRUGGLES: Wrong to single out the manager or GM. Team was bad as a group. Can’t pin it on one person.
    • FREE AGENCY: Breaking down the free agency process and ending up with the White Sox.
    • HOME RUNS: Balls feel really soft this year. Balls are not going out as much. Offensive numbers are down this year. Some players talk with each other about the ball playing a factor. Almost like you have to pull the ball to get it out.
    • EYE CONDITION: Has a certain condition keratoconus and is trying out a new intensive contact lense. Breaking down the condition and how he takes care of it.
    • FUTURE: Playing at a significant discount is disrespectful. Wants to keep playing next year and still loves the game.
