The life of the Proctor Memorial Building, located at Bagg Commemorative Park at the west end of Main Street in Utica, was never robust. Since its construction in 1933, it has seen periods of activity interspersed with many years of neglect. Other than volunteers, including the Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) of Proctor High School, cleaning the park of debris and leaves, little attention was given to this location — the memorial to the birthplace of Utica.
30 businesses, nearly 300 residents receiving Rome tornado recovery aid
ROME — Rome Mayor Jeffrey M. Lanigan and Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr. announced new updates in Rome’s tornado recovery efforts at City Hall on Friday. They said the clean-up will take several weeks, and all city streets have been reopened except for the blocks in front of the damaged churches. They said they have given out $140,000 to more than 30 businesses from the Rome Emergency Business Fund, and just short of $750,000 from the Rome Victims Recovery Fund to roughly 279 residents so far. “We have a great community that has truly stepped up,” said Lanigan. “We’re going to keep moving forward, and I promise you we’re not slowing down.”

Cooling station for unhoused people opens in Ilion

Visitors will store items in the locker while spending time at the site. The cooling station will be open from noon to 5 p.m. and will provide guests with a bag lunch as well as a place to get out of the heat.
