NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — New York Attorney General Letitia James released a statement and held a press conference on Friday evening to address the ruling holding former President Donald Trump and related defendants liable in a civil fraud case brought by her office.

Listen to James deliver remarks about the victory below:

NY State Supreme Court Justice Arthur F. Engoron ruled Friday afternoon that Donald Trump, other individual defendants and the Trump Organization entities pay $364 million for engaging in fraud meant to inflate understandings of his wealth.

"For years, Donald Trump engaged in massive fraud to falsely inflate his net worth and unjustly enrich himself, his family, and his organization. While he may have authored the 'Art of the Deal,' our case revealed that his business was based on the art of the steal," James said.

Trump was also barred from serving as an officer or director at any New York state company for three years, and from getting loans from banks in the state for the same time period.

A three-year investigation preceded James’ September 2022 filing against Trump, a number of Trump Organization companies and senior executives for financial fraud and illegal conduct.

"Today, justice has been served. This is a tremendous victory for this state, this nation, and for everyone who believes that we all must play by the same rules — even former presidents," James said.
