Extreme weather continues to affect infrastructure across the country. Extreme heat caused outages that crippled part of New York’s subway systems due to a power outage. New Jersey Transit reported the heat had affected rail equipment and air conditioning. Climatecrisis247 believes these problems have worsened this summer due to heat and heavy storms. Yesterday, thunderstorms caused the failure of part of the Nashville Reservoir, which meant that some people downstream needed evacuation.

Oil Industry Gets Bigger –Kuwait’s Record Crude Discovery

About a quarter of Americans do not believe that the earth’s temperature has been increasing, according to a report issued by Ressources for the Future titled “American Understanding of Climate Change.” The authors wrote , “Interestingly, the proportion of Americans who believe that the earth has been warming is slightly and statistically significantly lower now than it was four years ago (75 percent versus 83 percent).” According to Politico , support for new energy sources declined: “Eighty-three percent of Americans support solar energy, down from 91 percent in 2013, and 70 percent of Americans support wind energy, compared to 84 percent in 2013.” Climatecrisis247 believes this is a sign that denial of climate change is still part of the opinions of a huge portion of the American public. This, in turn, means less support for public policy and action that could slow global warming.

NATO Military Hit By Climate Problems

A new NATO report shows climate change has “a profound impact on Allied security.” This was one conclusion of “NATO Releases 2024 Climate Change and Security Impact Assessment Report.” Climate change affects preparedness and “sea, land, air, space and cyber” operations. Climatecrisis247 believes this problem is only one of a long list of how climate affects military operations and how these operations change the environment. This goes beyond “preparedness” to the huge amounts of CO2 emission events like the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the Middle East conflict accelerating global warming.

Oil Prices Can Rise Due To Climate Disasters

Climate change can affect the price of energy, particularly oil. According to Barron’s , “From forest fires to hurricanes and other natural disasters: climate change risk is increasingly influencing oil prices, just as the world is struggling to shift away from high-polluting fossil fuels.” Hurricanes can shut down oil facilities along the Gulf Coast, particularly in Texas. Climatecrisis247 believes this conclusion is old. Oil prices have spiked for years because of Gulf storms that shut down facilities.
