Licking County deputies shoot, kill man accused of trying to stab sister in Alexandria

Licking County Sheriff's deputies shot and killed a man Friday after they alleged he tried to stab and kill his sister at an Alexandria home that later caught fire, according to the sheriff's office.

Deputies responded around 9:20 a.m. Friday to a domestic violence report at a home in the 4000 block of Northridge Road, where they allege witnesses saw a man trying to stab and kill his sister, according to the sheriff's office.

Deputies say the home was on fire when they arrived and that they found the man after entering the building. During a news conference Friday afternoon, Sheriff Randy Thorp told local news media, including The Advocate, that deputies shot the man during the encounter and then gave him CPR.

Thorp did not say whether the man charged at deputies or threatened them with a weapon before deputies shot him, stating "it's being reviewed right now."

A Licking County Sheriff deputy involved in the shooting will be put on administrative leave during the investigation, Thorp said. A Johnstown police officer was also involved and the department placed them on administrative leave, Johnstown Police Chief Rusty Smart told The Advocate.

Thorp said the sheriff's office has not yet confirmed the identifies of the man and his sister but that both are adults.

No officers suffered any injuries, though the sister suffered a cut to her hand; she was otherwise unharmed, Thorp said.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating the shooting.
