Police are searching for a driver who hit a pedestrian in Newark and fled, leaving the victim injured on the side of the road.

The crash happened just before 5:30 a.m. Tuesday in the northbound lane of South College Avenue near Plymouth Drive, according to Sgt. Joseph Conover, a spokesman for the Newark Police Department.

The driver kept going and did not call 911 to report the crash. The injured victim, a 67-year-old man, somehow got to a yard in the Yorkshire neighborhood, where he was discovered by New Castle County Police.

He was taken to Christiana Hospital to be treated for serious injuries.

Later in the day, police found the vehicle believed to be involved, but no arrests have been made as of Wednesday afternoon.

Anyone with information about the crash or the identity of the driver should contact Master Cpl. Wayne Aston at 302-366-7100, ext. 3414, or waston@newark.de.us.
