City crews will begin the annual water main flushing next week.

The work will be conducted overnight between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. Residents may experience temporary fluctuations in water pressure and changes in water clarity.

Officials recommend postponing laundering, dishwashing and showering during those hours.

Water main flushing is necessary to test the hydrants to ensure adequate flow and pressure is available, city officials said. The flushing also removes sediment from the pipes to help ensure optimum water clarity and quality.

If water is discolored, wait approximately 30 minutes for the flushing crew to move out of the area, then run cold water in a bathtub or basin sink until the water is clear.

If laundry becomes stained, residents should keep the clothes wet and rewash with “Rust Rover” powder. Rust Rover packets are available at city hall.
