Former Avalanche enforcer re-signs with Devils

Back in March, the Colorado Avalanche traded Kurtis MacDermid to the New Jersey Devils in exchange for prospect Zakhar Bardakov's signing rights and a 2024 seventh-round pick.

Just over two months later, MacDermid has found himself a long-term home in New Jersey. The Devils have re-signed the enforcer to a three-year, $3.45 million ($1.15 million AAV) contract.

MacDermid made an immediate impact after being acquired by the Devils. The Devils needed more toughness, especially with the New York Rangers having fellow enforcer Matt Rempe. MacDermid certainly provided them with plenty of that.

Since March 1, MacDermid led the Devils with 50 penalty minutes and was tied for the NHL lead with four fighting majors. Clearly, he stepped up in the area where the Devils needed him to and made the Metropolitan club more challenging to go up against because of it.

With MacDermid landing this three-year pact, he has gained some excellent job security and should continue to be a key part of the Devils' lineup. With that, his versatility will come in handy for the Devils, as he is both a winger and a defenseman.

In the end, while MacDermid may have become expendable in Colorado because of the Avalanche's great depth, it's nice to see him find a great fit in New Jersey. Let's see how much of an impact he will make during his new contract from here.
