NEWARK, N.J. -- On Friday morning, New Jersey Devil s President/General Manager Tom Fitzgerald announced that prospect Cam Squires has signed a three-year, entry-level contract.

Squires was selected by the Devils 122nd overall in the 2023 NHL Draft.

The 6'0", 170-pound winger just completed his third season in the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) with the Cape Breton Eagles.

In 2023-24, he scored a team-leading 33 goals and earned 72 points. Per the press release , his 53 penalty minutes were the most among his team.

During the Devils 2024 Development Camp, Squires met with reporters and discussed winning the QMJHL Humanitarian of the Year award for the 2022-23 season.

"Being a junior hockey player in a small town like Cape Breton, it is important for me to connect with the community a little bit there," Squires said. "I think for me, it was prioritizing how can I connect with the kids and the families around the community in Cape Breton. I have been there for three full seasons now, and it has been a second home to me, and they have done a great job of taking me in, so I think just doing my part as a hockey player and then trying to go above and beyond and give back because they deserve it too."

The 19-year-old said his main focus is working out in the gym to improve his size and gain weight. On the ice, he continues to work on his skating and the small details in his game.

Squires is expected to remain in the QMJHL for his fourth season with the Eagles.
