A gas leak outside a Newark hospital has been fixed and the area has been deemed safe, officials say. A spokesperson for Newark Beth Israel Medical Center says the leak was on a PSE&G curb valve on Lehigh Avenue behind the hospital. PSE&G and the Newark Fire Department responded at 6:45 a.m. The spokesperson added there was no interruption to gas service and no interruption to patient care at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. A man who lives across the street had his home checked for possible natural gas. "He looked around, he had equipment and was checking for a gas leak and he said there was no leak, he was there for about 3 minutes,” said Ade Oseni. "I'm glad to be safe and I'm glad they came on time, very quickly." The road to his house and the hospital had to closed while crews worked to fix the gas leak. PSE&G wants to remind people if you smell gas, or a rotten egg smell, to act quickly. Leave the area immediately and call 911. "
