Pelotonia Ride Weekend is nearing its return with thousands of cyclists preparing to bike around central Ohio and Licking County to raise funds for cancer research.

The event takes place Aug. 3 and 4 and features several routes of different lengths. Riders are scheduled to travel through Granville and Newark Aug. 3 on some of those routes, requiring commuters to share the road with them.

A Newark police spokesperson said that cyclists will be traveling through Newark at some point between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.

“Please be patient as we assist this great community of riders putting in the miles to raise money for cancer research,” Newark police stated in a news release.

According to Pelotonia's 2023 annual report , the organization has raised more than $283 million since 2009 for cancer research at the Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center.

A Granville cycling group, known as Team Granville Spokesmen, posted on Facebook that it’s been raising funds for this year’s event.

Here’s which roads in Granville and Newark cyclists will use and where people can support them.

Cyclists to bike east in Granville on West Broadway, pass North 21st Street

Riders will travel east on Raccoon Valley Road before arriving at West Broadway in Granville. They will turn left and head north on North Granger Street and later head northeast on Welsh Hills Road.

Cyclists will then turn right at Sharon Valley Road and head southbound before continuing east on Granville Street, passing the intersection on North 21st Street.

Riders will travel to Courthouse Square in Newark

Once cyclists reach the end of Granville Street, they will turn right onto North 11th Street and head south. They will then head east on West Main Street, travel around the Courthouse Square before continuing east down East Main Street.

The cyclists will then turn left onto O’Bannon Avenue and travel north until they reach Butler Road. They will head east from there, exiting city limits , before reentering them once they ride south on Dayton Road and reach the intersection with Swans Road.

The riders will exit city limits again while traveling east on Swans Road.
