A DUI stop on Interstate 95 near Newark led to the driver being arrested on drug charges.

The incident happened shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday on I-95 in the area of Christiana Road, according to Delaware State Police. A trooper saw an SUV traveling over 85 mph — 20 mph over the speed limit — failing to maintain its lane, following other vehicles too closely and committing over traffic violations.

The trooper pulled over the SUV, and the driver showed signs of impairment and smelled of alcohol, police said. After failing field sobriety tests, the driver, 43-year-old Donelle Harris, of Wilmington, was arrested.

Troopers then found 5 grams of crack cocaine, 34 oxycodone pills and drug paraphernalia in his possession.

Harris was charged with possession with intent to deliver drugs, DUI, aggressive driving, speeding and additional traffic violations. He was jailed after failing to post $24,500 cash bond.
