Police are seeking the community’s help in tracking down an individual that robbed a Newberg credit union last week.

According to information provided by the Newberg-Dundee Police Department, officers responded to a report of a robbery at First Community Credit Union on Hancock and Howard streets at about 12:30 p.m. June 18. The NDPD released a pair of photos in hopes someone in the community could identify the man.

“The pictured individual entered the bank, brandished a firearm and demanded money from the bank teller,” the release said. “The pictured individual is outstanding and has not been identified.”

The NDPD urged anyone who recognizes the suspect to contact the department at its none-emergency number, 503-538-8321, also warning if someone sees the man to “call for police and do not approach him.”

Sgt. Brian Hagen, the department’s public information officer, said the NDPD has taken the case and Detective Todd Steele is working with the FBI on tracking down the suspect. If he is apprehended, Hagen said, the man could face a charge of first-degree robbery, although other charges would be likely as well.

The suspect left the business on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash, Hagen said, adding that the credit union was fully staffed at the time of the robbery, “and there were (an unknown number of) customers inside,” Hagen said.

“Detectives have been canvassing the area for video surveillance that may have captured the suspect arriving or leaving to track his route,” he added. “Specifics about their findings thus far are not available for release.”

The man brandished a semi-automatic pistol of unknown make or model, Hagen added, saying, “There are no specific details about it to share at this time.”
