A local man perished in a single vehicle crash in rural Yamhill County last week.

According to a release from the Oregon State Police, Newberg resident Zakary Ross Nasby, 26, was traveling on Highway 221 south of Dayton on July 11 when his Ford Ranger “left the northbound travel lane onto the shoulder and overcorrected back across the roadway before leaving the roadway and striking a tree.”

OSP troopers responded to the scene, which was roughly at milepost 9. Nasby was declared deceased at the scene. The release said it appeared that he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, which reportedly occurred a few minutes before 10 p.m.

“The highway was impacted for approximately 3.5 hours during the on-scene investigation,” the release said, adding that the cause of the crash remains under investigation.

The OSP was assisted at the scene by deputies from the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon Department of Transportation employees and a crew from Dayton Fire and Rescue.
