Man who fled into quarry charged with five more felonies after deputies find guns in the woods

NEWBERRY, Fla. – Jordan Joseph Cain, 27, who was originally arrested after he fled into a quarry on June 11, has now been charged with grand theft of a motor vehicle and four counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition by a convicted felon after a deputy found three guns and hundreds of rounds of ammunition in the woods and the vehicle he fled in, which was later reported stolen.

Cain was originally arrested on June 11, after he was found swimming in a quarry off CR 235 in Newberry; he was charged with fleeing with lights and sirens active, petit theft of a license plate, and resisting an officer without violence.

The car that Cain allegedly drove into the woods on June 11 had not been reported stolen at the time of the arrest, but the owner of the car later decided to pursue charges for stealing the car.

The car reportedly ended up about 100 yards into the woods, and a K-9 team found a Taurus 9mm pistol about 15 yards from the car and a rifle about 30 yards from the car, along the path where Cain had allegedly fled toward the quarry. A search of the car reportedly produced an Sccy pistol, a regular magazine, an extended 30-round magazine, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition. The owner of the car did not claim ownership of the items found in the car.

The Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy who investigated the case reported that a latent palm print on the magazine of the Taurus pistol belonged to Cain. Cain’s prints were also reportedly found on the exterior of the stolen car.

Cain has 11 felony convictions (none violent) and five misdemeanor convictions (none violent). He has served two state prison sentences, with his most recent release in January 2024. He is currently on probation. His bail on the June 11 charges was set at $65,000, and he is being held without bail on the new charges
