    City of Newburgh resident charged with attempted arson for Carpenter Ave. fire

    CITY OF NEWBURGH - City of Newburgh police charged a resident with attempted arson in connection with a fire on Carpenter Avenue last month.

    Police said they located and arrested Ashley Jessup, 35, of the City of Newburgh on Monday.

    According to city police, Jessup was wanted on a charge resulting from an arson investigation that began following a fire at 73 Carpenter Ave. on June 24.

    Police said Jessup was alleged to have started a fire at that address with the intention of killing people inside the residence following a dispute.

    Police did not release any details of the dispute.

    The City of Newburgh Fire Department responded and assisted in extinguishing the fire.

    Jessup was charged with attempted second-degree arson, a felony.

    Bail and other court information, and the name of Jessup's attorney, were not immediately available.
