Father and son accused of assaulting elderly Newburgh livery driver

CITY OF NEWBURGH - A father and son have been charged with assaulting an elderly livery driver in the city last month.

City of Newburgh police said that at approximately 7:35 a.m. on June 13, officers responded to the 200 block of Carpenter Avenue to investigate a report of a serious assault.

The officers found an unconscious 78-year-old man who had been operating a livery vehicle. An emergency medical services crew responded to the scene to treat him for a critical head injury.

City of Newburgh detectives began an investigation, and two suspects were identified and located within the past week.

On Thursday last week, detectives arrested Ulee Johnston Jr., 25, of the City of Newburgh. On Tuesday, they arrested Ulee Johnston Sr., 44, also of the City of Newburgh.

Both were charged with second-degree assault, a felony.

Court and bail information and the names of their attornies were not immediately available.
