A new sushi place is due to open in Downtown Auburn in early September, filling a space which has remained vacant for years. Bayartsetseg Baterdene has worked in the restaurant industry for more than 15 years, including 10 years managing Auburn’s Ninja Sushi. In her sixth successful ride, Jeanette Mero can finally claim the most coveted title in endurance riding: the Tevis Cup. The Mariposa, CA native completed her 100-mile journey to Auburn's McCann Stadium at 10:05 p.m. Saturday night to win the 68th Tevis Cup, finishing with a final time of 17 hours and five minutes. Mero had been a consistent top ten finisher at Tevis for several years now and won the Haggin Cup in 2021, but a first place finish had eluded her until this year.

Auburn State Recreation Area Superintendent Lauren Shoemaker said on weekends during the busy time of the summer, vehicles have been lining up in a que along Foresthill Road. Visitors have been worried about the capacity issues of the Upper Lake Clementine parking lot, which holds 150 cars.
