Maidu wins Section 4 title after 13-3 win
For the second time in as many tournaments, the Maidu 10-11 All-Stars showed the true team they are in the championship game. After losing to Lakeside, 9-8, in the first District 54 title game, Maidu came out the following day and beat Lakeside, 7-1. After losing yesterday to Fair Oaks Orangevale, 3-1, Maidu came out and convincingly beat them, 13-3, in four innings.

Board President Says Anderson Union School District “Will Not Comply” with California’s SAFETY Act
On Monday, July 15, California gained a new law known as the SAFETY Act. Previously known as Assembly Bill 1955, it strengthens current educational law that supports students in California’s LGBTQ+ community. It was passed into law in hopes of curbing the actions of about a dozen California school districts, including Anderson Union High School District, that have enacted “parental notification” policies.

Alcohol, speed suspected in crash that killed driver in El Dorado County, CHP says
EL DORADO COUNTY – A driver is dead and alcohol and speed are suspected to be a factor in a crash near Placerville on Thursday night, the California Highway Patrol said.The crash happened just after 9 p.m. in the area of Country Club Drive near Los Santos Drive.The CHP said a 2017 Ford truck went off the roadway and crashed into trees located in the front yard of a home.The driver, a man in his 30s, was not wearing his seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene, the CHP said.The passenger, also a man in his 30s, was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.The driver's identification has not been released.
GFD firefighters deployed to assist in California wildfires.
Two Greeley Fire Department (GFD) firefighters and one firefighter from the Frederick-Firestone Fire District have been sent to Sacramento, California this morning on a Brush Truck. They are being deployed to help respond to fires in the region, as there are ongoing and expected severe weather conditions. The GFD has cooperative agreements with regional partners to share firefighting resources nationwide. In Greeley, an additional Brush Truck and two Tactical Water Tenders are in place to respond to any vegetation fires in the area and ensure protection of their jurisdiction.

Some Sacramento-area businesses close due to CrowdStrike outage
SACRAMENTO – Popular antivirus software CrowdStrike has caused global outages after an automatic update was pushed out. The outage has impacted airlines, banks, media outlets and businesses. Sacramento County says some of its public counters were closed Friday, at the building permit center and the coroner's office. Others like the tax collection center were able to reopen after a few hours. Some local hospitals said they've been monitoring their operations. Broadway Sacramento closed its box office.
