My take: State rides in to trim Wilmington’s office vacancy rate
This week, we learned via a Spotlight Delaware story that the state quietly purchased the Alpha Technologies building in downtown Wilmington earlier this year. Alpha was one of many efforts to bring jobs in customer services and other areas to downtown after the downsizings at Bank of America and DuPont.
Wilmington Man Arrested After Traffic Stop in Dewey Beach
A traffic stop by Dewey Beach Police Friday night led to the arrest of a Wilmington man on a variety of charges. Police detected the odor of burnt marijuana coming from inside the vehicle and the driver handed police a New York driver’s license belonging to another person. The driver was later identified as 36 year old Ramone Shy of Wilmington. Shy attempted to run off on foot, but was arrested after a brief foot race. A search of the vehicle turned up black gloves, a flashlight, wire cutters, glass window punch and a flat-head screwdriver – which are commonly used for burglary. Shy is charged with the following offenses:
Corvette club celebrates 50 years of cars and camaraderie in Delaware
The Corvette Club of Northern Delaware first roared its engines in 1973. Since then, they have been hosting meetings, shows, contests, and cruises across the country.Today, they held a show and contest at Diver Chevrolet. A portion of South College Avenue will once again have overnight closures this week to allow workers to install steel girders for the Interstate 95 interchange project. Troopers seek 2 suspects after Townsend robbery attempt leads to car crash
Delaware State Police are looking for a pair of suspects after a robbery attempt led to a car crash in Townsend over the weekend. The victims, a 19-year-old Middletown man and 18-year-old Newark woman, made arrangements with somebody they'd met on social media to meet the person in Townsend to sell them vape pens, police said.
