A Rocky Point homeowner is calling on government officials to step in and save her home as the cliff in front of the house gets washed away with each rain storm. Yan Cheung's dream home is once again at risk after Sunday night's rainstorm washed part of her retaining wall and property down a cliff. It's the second time it's happened to her this year. "It is not right that I live in fear," said Cheung. "This will keep happening and this is just the beginning." Back in April, part of the cliff collapsed after a storm brought heavy rain and took part of the road in front of her home with it. One of her neighbors paid to put a retaining wall on part of the collapsed cliff and added more drainage on the remaining part of her street to redirect water. "I thought this is it, it should last another five, 10 years. Then guess what? In a couple months, the second storm hit, and now we're back to square one," said Cheung. She worries what could fall down this cliff next during the next storm if she doesn't get more immediate assistance from the government. "Nobody from a private association or from a property owner could afford to do it," she said. Her neighbor Nicholas Colonna lives around the corner from Cheung. He says more help is needed fast not just for her, but for other neighbors whose homes get damaged after rainstorms. "We need help from something bigger than what we received," he said. Cheung has a message for government officials as more of her property inches closer to falling off a cliff. "I'm asking for the federal government, the state government and the town to step in to help the North Shore residents," she said. A spokesman for Brookhaven says building inspectors and teams have been deployed to all affected areas of the town and encourages residents to report damage to them by calling 631-451-TOWN. News 12 also reached out the the Army Corps of Engineers and is waiting to hear back. "
