HEAT ALERT: Temperatures reach into the 90s across NJ; tracking potential for evening storms

STORM WATCH: A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for parts of Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth and Somerset counties until 8:45 p.m. As advertised, New Jersey was sweating under an intense dome of heat today. Humid air from the Carolinas made it feel even hotter out. This heat is a one-and-done, though. Autumn-like air will fill in quickly overnight. Humidity pushed back south and cooler air from Canada is rooting itself here in New Jersey until the end of the week. TONIGHT: Mainly cloudy. Possible storms passing through until 2 a.m. Lows fading to the upper-60s. THURSDAY: More clouds than sunshine but dry and cool. Highs around 74 (Normal is 83). LABOR DAY WEEKEND: I wish there was more sun in the forecast and temperatures were a touch warmer for the last unofficial weekend of summer – but unfortunately that may not be the case. SATURDAY: Overcast, maybe with some hints of sun. Otherwise mainly cloudy. Passing shower possible after 5 p.m. SUNDAY: Still cloudy but the hints of sun become a little more numerous. A silver lining in the forecast. Very warm, with highs near 88. LABOR DAY: Sun and clouds, closer to seasonable. Highs around 80. "
