Officials held an information session on Saturday to talk about the proposed renovation of Nanuet Public Library – a building that library director Jessica Bowen Ossa says needs a facelift. "This building – part of it was built in the 60s, part was built in the 80s – it needs a major overhaul of mechanical systems, plumbing, electrical, the safety and security. There's no sprinkler system for fire suppression," said Bowen Ossa. Bowen Ossa said the facility also needs some amenity upgrades, too "People are always looking for rooms to use for meetings, tutors – and we just don't have those meeting rooms that people expect from a library," she said. Officials said another info session is scheduled for Oct. 8 at Nanuet Senior High School. Both sessions give people a chance to learn more about the details of the renovation before Oct. 16. It's the date when Bowen Ossa said people will vote on a bond that will fund the project. "People will vote on a bond for $12.9 million on Wednesday, Oct. 16," she said. "The vote will be held here at Nanuet Public Library." Resident Jerry Touchband attended the meeting. He said he wanted to learn about the costs associated with the project. "I think it will be money well spent, but I just wanted to see what we were getting for the money that we would have to pay," Touchband said. Resident Chris Tricarico said he will also support the bond. "It's a great place, so it should be state-of-the-art," Tricarico said.
