ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A building with a lot of history in Rochester will soon see new life:
the old V.H. Lang Trophy Company. The building has been vacant for ten years.

A local builder, Bace Build, and their sister real estate company, 43North Real Estate , are working to turn the 1865 building into their office space, with apartments upstairs.

The companies say they added the building to the National Historic Registries.

It was built in 1865 to be the home of Hebard Marble Works, and was many other businesses, including a budget hotel. Writing on the wall from tenants can be seen on the walls of the upper floors. Some of the marble the company made was included in 43North’s 30 W. Broad Street project.

That writing will be covered, but project coordinator Lily Loveless with Bace/43North said many historic details, including the tin ceiling, and exterior cast iron entrance/

Other elements will be recreated to fit the building’s history, including the floor.

Bace and 43North will have their office downstairs, while the “life/work” style apartments, Loveless says:

“Our idea here is to highlight what we can do as both a development and a construction company with these apartments,” she said. “We’re thrilled to have some new design details and hopefully bring some new design details to this market.”

Those will be on the second and third floor, with the rehabbed basement serving as storage.

Joel Barrett, partner of Bace and 43North, said they are happy to sharing the street and area with other businesses there, like Golden Supply Co., Fuego, and other architecture and building companies there.

“We’re super happy to fit our way in development and construction into these successful businesses,” he said.

They are hoping to be finished by late summer.
