ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Penn Yan residents are warned of a potential exposure to Hepatitis A from a restaurant.

According to the county, people who ate at the Main Deck restaurant on Lake Street between March 27 and April 12 may have been exposed to the virus. Health experts warn that, although most people don’t get sick if an employee has the virus, there is still a risk.

The Main Deck Restaurant is cooperating and complying with state and local health departments. The county says the restaurant has been inspected and was cleared to open.

Residents who ate food at the restaurant between April 4 and April 12 are advised to get a Hepatitis A vaccine. The free vaccine is offered on Thursday, April 18 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Yates County Office Building on Liberty Street.

“Anyone who may have eaten at this restaurant during this timeframe should check their immunization status and if not already vaccinated against hepatitis A, come to our free clinic or visit their healthcare provider if they are experiencing symptoms,” said County Public Health Director Doug Sinclair.

Those who ate at the restaurant between March 27 and April 3 may have been exposed, but getting the vaccine now won’t prevent the infection. Residents are urged to monitor themselves and their families and to call a healthcare provider if they believe they have symptoms.
