ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The Greece Central School District celebrated its young students in special education programs with an All-Star Day on Friday.

224 Students in kindergarten through fifth grade are recognized for their inclusivity, teamwork, and athleticism among students with disabilities. Each attendee got the chance to participate in a series of engaging activities, guided by high school student-athletes.

As the first event of its kind within the GCSD, it seeks to foster a culture of inclusivity and to providing opportunities for all students.

Melanie Stevenson, the Director of Pupil Personnel Services at Greece Athena said, “We’re able to include more students than would typically be qualified to participate in the actual Special Olympics event. So we really wanted to do something that gave an opportunity to all of our students in the district.”

Organizers said K-5 All-Star Day aims to promote camaraderie, boost confidence, and empower students with disabilities through sports and teamwork.
