ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Monroe County Executive Adam Bello was joined by a state delegation, county legislators, and Volunteers of America Wednesday for the ribbon cutting of the new Moving Forward Family Shelter.

This is the first time Monroe County has leased and developed emergency shelter space.

The shelter can house up to 58 families when at full capacity, more than doubling the existing family shelter space available in Monroe County, and reducing the number of families the County places in hotels for emergency housing.

The shelter offers several services, including on-site case management, meals and interim transportation to school, and medical services.

To be placed in the Moving Forward Family Shelter, families must be referred by DHS. Referrals are expected to begin in the coming weeks.
