Seasonal clean-up at Mt. Hope, Riverside cemeteries

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The teams over at Mount Hope and Riverside cemeteries are gearing up for the changing seasons.

The annual clean-up process was well underway Tuesday, before the grass is covered with leaves and eventually snow.

The grounds team makes sure debris is swept away and trees are trimmed before the snow comes. That’s when crews stock up on ice melt, and check that the snowplows are in good shape.

Officials say there are some small things the community can do to lend a hand.

“One thing that can help is the decorations,” Cemetery Manager Jarod Terrell said. “Not so much here at Mount Hope, but at Riverside there’s a lot of decorations, and if you could remove some of those decorations as we go through the process of blowing the leaves that would be very helpful.”

Starting on November 1,the cemeteries will close at 5:00p.m. instead of 8:00 p.m. The team is always looking for volunteers.
