ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — St. John Fisher University is welcoming its largest class size in the school’s history. Comprised of 687 students, the class of 2028 officially arrived at campus Saturday.

“They also enter as the strongest academic group that’s ever entered, the most diverse class that we’ve ever entered,” said Jose Perales, the vice president of enrollment management.

Perales said the university is making history in 2024, as incoming students hail from 14 different U.S. states, and several international locations, including Dubai, Italy and the United Kingdom. While school officially starts Tuesday, in the meantime, officials said the students will be taking park in workshops and group seminars as they’re introduced to the community.

“It’s really exciting, but a little nerve-wracking,” said Emma Cottet, an incoming student. “The Fisher staff is great, so they’re very helpful, and get everything where it needs to be, so, it’s been good.”

As Perales explained it, for the first week, it’s all hands-on deck.

“That’s how we start students off here at Fisher,” he began. “You see members of our athletic teams here, student leaders, including our orientation leaders, are here helping students and families carry things up to their rooms, making sure they’re building lasting relationships.”

Perales said, university leaders ensure each student is equipped with the right resources, including necessary contacts for people that can aid them.

In conjunction with the start of classes Tuesday, new students are able to attend the annual matriculation ceremony, marking the beginning of their academic journey.
