    UPDATE: 13-year-old charged in deadly shooting of 25-year-old in Syracuse

    Update at 3:20 p.m. on 8-16-2024: A 13-year-old has been arrested and charged in connection to the deadly shooting of 25-year-old Matthew Freeman.

    Syracuse Police said the teen has been charged with the following:

    • Murder in the 2 nd degree
    • Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2 nd degree

    The investigation into this incident is still ongoing. Anyone with any information is encouraged to contact the Syracuse Police Department Criminal Investigations Division at (315) 442-5222.

    Update at 11:45 a.m. on 8-16-2024: Syracuse Police have identified the victim in this incident as 25-year-old Matthew Freeman. Police also say their investigation is still active and ongoing.

    SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Just before midnight on Aug. 13, Syracuse Police Officers were sent to the 4100 block of South Salina Street for a shooting with injury complaint.

    Before arriving at the scene, police say a 25-year-old male was taken by private car to St. Joseph’s Hospital. He had apparent gunshot wounds to his abdomen and shoulder.

    “Despite life-saving treatment performed at the hospital, the victim succumbed to their injuries,” said Syracuse Police.

    The investigation into this incident is active and ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Syracuse Police Criminal Investigations Division at (315) 442-5222.
