Deposit woman charged following death of a 3-year-old child

DELHI, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH)- A Deposit woman was indicted by a Delaware County Grand Jury on Thursday on charges regarding the death of a 3-year-old child in the Town of Deposit.

District Attorney Shawn Smith announced that Marielys Ramos, 27, was charged with two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Reckless Endangerment in the First Degree, a Class D Felony.

It is alleged that beginning on or about March 6 and continuing until on or about May 10, Ramos knowingly acted in a manner that was likely to be injurious to the physical, mental or moral welfare of two 3-year-old children.

It is also alleged that beginning on April 9 and continuing until May 10, Ramos recklessly engaged in conduct, under circumstances evincing a depraved indifference to human life, which created a grave risk of death to a 3-year-old child.

It is reported that Ramos was the mother of the 3-year-old child. The father of the child, James Christ, was charged with the murder of the child.

Ramos was arraigned on August 27. She pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Ramos was released on non-monetary terms and conditions pending her next court date.
