BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – A flavorful festival celebrating a commonly used vegetable is coming to the Ross Park Zoo.

The American Civic Association is hosting the 20th annual Garlic Festival on Saturday.

The festival is the ACA’s largest fundraiser of the year. It will feature a record number of vendors offering garlicky foods, snacks, and drinks as well as crafts and gifts.

The ACA is also bringing back its garlic ice cream, which has been a crowd favorite over the years.

Marketing and Event Coordinator Mary Neufeld says the festival serves as an important reminder to acknowledge the cultural diversity that is present in our community.

She says garlic brings us together.

“Garlic is a key ingredient in food all around the world. People love garlic in their food in all of the different cultures pretty much. So, this is a way for us to unite all of the different cultures and celebrate that,” said Neufeld.

Neufeld says a variety of different cultures will be represented through food, music, and activities.

The Garlic Festival will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for children. Those in attendance will also receive discounted zoo entrance tickets.
