The Best 10 Moments In Cleveland Browns History

The air is cooler. Fall beer is out.

    Football is back!

And Cleveland Browns fans are gearing up for another wild NFL season.

The Browns, a team with a passionate fan base and storied history, have struggled since rejoining the NFL twenty-plus years ago. But that doesn’t mean our team doesn’t have legendary moments that are worth bragging about.

Check out these top 10 moments that define the Cleveland Browns’ legacy—moments every fan should know and celebrate!

    1. Winning The 1964 NFL Championship

Most people reading this probably weren’t there for it, but the pinnacle of our storied history is the victory in the 1964 NFL Championship game. Led by legendary coach Blanton Collier and quarterback Frank Ryan, the Browns stunned the Baltimore Colts (yep, THAT Baltimore!) with a decisive 27-0 shutout. This win remains the team’s most significant achievement and an extremely proud moment for all Browns fans.

    2. Bernie Kosar’s Epic Comeback in “The Drive” (1986)

Even though the Browns lost to the Denver Broncos in the AFC Championship game, Bernie Kosar’s performance during “The Drive” in the 1986 season is etched in every true Browns fan’s memory. The quarterback’s resilience and leadership during this game showcased the Browns’ determination, making it one of the most memorable moments in the team’s history.

    3. Jim Brown

No list of top Browns moments would be complete without mentioning the legend Jim Brown . He’s arguably the greatest running back in NFL history. From 1957 to 1965 Brown filled highlight reels with jaw-dropping performances and record-breaking achievements. He led the league in rushing yards for eight out of his nine seasons, cementing his legacy as a true NFL legend.

    4. The Dawg Pound’s Birth (1985)

The creation of the Dawg Pound in 1985 brought a heightened level of energy and passion to the throwback Cleveland Municipal Stadium. Fans dressed up in dog masks and barked at any opposing team, making the Dawg Pound one of the most iconic fan sections in the NFL. This moment marked the beginning of a new era of Browns fanship, and will be a part of Cleveland lore til the end of time.

    5. The Return to Cleveland (1999)

A sore subject for many Browns fans, but once Art Modell moved the original Browns franchise to Baltimore in 1996 Cleveland was left without a team. The city’s loyalty was eventually rewarded when the Browns were reinstated as an expansion team in 1999. Their return to The Land was a testament to the unwavering support from the fans, and will always be a significant chapter in the Browns’ history.

    6. The 2002 Playoff Berth

Cleveland’s playoff drought finally ended in 2002, when the Browns secured a wild card spot with a 9-7 record. Although they lost a heartbreaker to the Pittsburgh Steelers, this achievement demonstrated that the Browns were once again a competitive force in the NFL. They’ve only been back to the postseason a couple times since 2002, but hopefully they’ll take a big step this season.

    7. The Miracle at FirstEnergy Stadium (2018)

In 2018, rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield led the Browns to a miraculous comeback win against the New York Jets. This victory ended the team’s 635-day winless streak and ignited a renewed sense of hope and excitement among fans. Mayfield’s performance solidified his status as a rising star and future leader of the team. It didn’t last, however, as Mayfield is now the starter in Tampa Bay.

    8. Nick Chubb’s Record-Setting Run (2019)

In a 2019 game against the Ravens, Nick Chubb broke free for an 88-yard touchdown run. He was cooking! This play set a franchise record. Moments like this one reminded Browns fans of how truly special Nick Chubb is at running the rock.

    9. Myles Garrett’s Dominant Performance (2020)

Defensive end Myles Garrett’s stellar performance against the Dallas Cowboys in 2020 proved his game-changing abilities. Garrett recorded multiple sacks and had a forced fumble, helping to lead the Browns to a 49-38 victory. His dominance on the field continues to be a key factor in the team’s success, especially after nabbing his first Defensive Player Of The Year award a season ago.

    10. The 2020 Playoff Victory Over the Steelers

The Browns’ 48-37 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers, which opened with an epic play, in the 2020 AFC Wild Card game marked their first playoff win since 1994. This victory not only ended a long postseason drought but also symbolized the team’s resurgence under head coach and two-time Coach Of The Year winner Kevin Stefanski.

I don’t care what they tell you, the Browns are one of the NFL’s most prized franchises. We’ll all keep a close eye on them this upcoming season, as we’re sure more epic moments are bound to come true.
