BEREA, OH - What started as a rainy workday for Austin quickly turned into an unforgettable moment when he won $50,000 on a $500,000 Platinum Jackpot scratch-off ticket.

According to a press release issued by the Ohio Lottery on Thursday, August 29, 2024, on Wednesday, after completing his first job of the day cleaning gutters, Austin stopped at Speedway #8133 in Berea.

Initially planning to buy a Propel drink, he decided to spend $10 on a Platinum Jackpot ticket instead.

“I slid it over and said, ‘never mind, just give me that ticket,’” Austin recalled. He scratched the ticket in his car and was stunned as he uncovered $5,000 after $5,000, totaling $50,000. Overwhelmed, he scanned the ticket on his lottery app before calling his wife on FaceTime. “I was shaking so bad; she couldn’t even see the ticket,” he said.

According to the press release, Austin returned to the store, where the cashier confirmed his win. “I was like, ‘it’s a big one,’ and he laughed,” Austin said. “He was like, ‘I can’t believe I just sold this guy a $50,000 ticket five minutes ago.’” After taxes, Austin will take home around $36,000, which he plans to use to pay off bills, save, and treat himself.

Platinum Jackpot is a $10 scratch-off game with a top prize of $500,000. As of August 29, three top prizes remain. For more details, visit the Ohio Lottery’s website, which has contributed over $32 billion to education since 1974, according to the press release.
