(SAN MATEO COUNTY, Calif.) San Mateo County will have additional 10 ICU beds available at Dignity Health later this week, according to KRON 4.

More than 17,000 people are currently being treated for coronavirus across California and almost all of the Bay Area's counties are nearly at ICU bed capacity.

On Monday San Mateo County officials announced a new plan to add 10 ICU beds.

"Today we have 7 available intensive care unit beds in San Mateo County that are staffed and available,” Louise Rogers, chief at San Mateo County Health, said. “We expect that they would be needed, and they will be needed soon.”

The $4.5 million deal announced Monday will add the beds to Dignity Health's Sequoia Hospital in Redwood City.

“They had the network to be able to pull in more than 40 staff on pretty short notice to be able to mobilize 10 additional intensive care unit beds,” Louise Rogers, head of the San Mateo County Health System said.
