NYPD: Car crash on Whitestone Expressway results in 1 critical injury

(QUEENS, N.Y.) The New York City Police Department responded to a crash on a highway in Queens that resulted in one critical injury on Thursday, according to PIX 11.

The car crash took place shortly before 7 a.m. on the northbound side of Whitestone Expressway near 20th Avenue and Linden Place, officials said.

The collision led to one person being taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Heavy traffic and delays ensued on the expressway as a result, according to PIX 11.

Delays affected all of the ramps headed to Northern Boulevard, the Grand Central Parkway and so those heading to the Van Wyck Expressway past the Long Island Expressway, per PIX 11.

Drivers were advised to take the Clearview Expressway or the Cross Island Parkway to the Throgs Neck Bridge as opposed to the Whitestone Bridge to get to the Bronx.

Officials did not say what led to the crash.
