HANOVER COUNTY, Va. – State police are still investigating a two-vehicle crash that left three people dead and one person badly injured this past weekend.

The August 19 crash happened at about 2:10 a.m. on I-95 South, at the 88-mile marker, between Lewistown and Sliding Hill Roads, in Hanover.

A 2011 Nissan Sentra with a Maryland registration was stopped in the center lane of the interstate for reasons that remain unclear. The stopped vehicle was soon rear-ended by a southbound 2017 Dodge Ram pick-up truck.

Andrea Michelle Rodriguez Guillen, 18, of Annapolis Maryland, Francisco Eleazar Orellana Reyes, 24, of Annapolis, Maryland and a 16-year-old female of Annapolis, Maryland were all pronounced dead at the scene.

A 21-year-old male, also from Annapolis, was taken to Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Medical Center in Richmond with injuries described as serious, but non-life-threatening.

According to state troopers, the driver of the pick-up truck did not sustain any injuries.

The Virginia State Police provide statewide law enforcement services and work in conjunction with local law enforcement and criminal justice agencies. In major crash scenes and/or crash scenes involving fatalities, the Virginia State Police Accident Reconstruction Team assists troopers with incident investigation and documentation.

Hanover County, located in Central Virginia, is part of the Greater Richmond area. All lanes of I-95 South were closed Saturday morning while an investigation was conducted. All of the lanes had reopened by 6:45 a.m.

The actual cause of Saturday’s crash has not yet been determined, and the incident remains under investigation.
