    With Halloween just two weeks away, make sure you’re ready with your costume and aware of the biggest Halloween activities in your area.

    For costumes, check out Spirit Halloween at 1291 East Los Angeles Avenue in Simi Valley. Or if you’re looking to save money, check out the local thrift stores who have lots of costumes in stock. Goodwill has two stores in Simi Valley, one in Thousand Oaks and one in Moorpark. Hope of the Valley has a large variety of costumes. Hope of the Valley is a non-profit that works to “prevent, reduce and eliminate poverty, hunger and homelessness.”

    October 21st is filled with events in several towns.

    The Simi Valley Public Library will host a Halloween Celebration from 10a.m. noon Oct. 21 at 2969 Tapo Canyon Road. This will include pumpkin decorating, trick-or-treating, and Halloween games. Costumes are encouraged. simivalleylibrary.org.

    On the same day, but later in the afternoon and into the evening, Strathearn Historical Park, at 137 Strathearn Place in Simi Valley is hosting Heritage Halloween from 4-9:30 p.m. This event will include games and trick-or-treating, and is showing the movie Mummies.     Boo at the Zoo: 11 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Oct. 21, 22, 28, 29. The Teaching Zoo at Moorpark. 7075 Campus Road. “Family fun with interactive trick or treating, scavenger hunt, crafts and more. $10 for children and seniors and $12 for adults. zoo.moorparkcollege.edu.”

    Thousand Oaks Community Center is hosting a Haunted Trail & Costume Contest from 6-9 p.m. at 2525 N. Moorpark Road. The contest begins at 6 p.m. “Haunted trail registration required for a time slot with first departure at 7 p.m. Trail tickets are $5 for anyone age 2 and older. Arrive 10 minutes before ticketed time. www.crpd.org.

    October 24th in Thousand Oaks it’s the Monster Book of Monsters: 4-5 p.m. Oct. 24. Grant R. Brimhall Library Teen Space, 1401 E. Janss Road. Craft your own Monster Book of Monsters “Ages 11 and older. While supplies last. Free. Registration required. www.tolibrary.org.

    Fridays to Sundays through Nov. 3 and Oct. 26 and 31 visit the Reign of Terror Haunted House at Janss Marketplace, 225 N. Moorpark Road. This “long-running haunted house with plenty of scares in across 28,000 square feet. Tickets are $35-$65. A lights on event Oct. 14 is $10 cash only.     October 27th is Library of the Dead: 7-9 p.m. Oct. 27. Grant R. Brimhall Library Community Room,1401 E. Janss Road. This features a showing of “Night of the Living Dead and a costume contest. Adults only. www.tolibrary.org.”

    On Halloween night, October 31st there are three great local events.

    From 4-7 p.m. Rancho Santa Susana Community Center, at 5005-C Los Angeles Ave, Simi Valley, is hosting a Halloween Carnival. “Geared for children 12 years and younger. Trick-or-treating, face painting, activities like inflatable jumpers and more. This year’s theme is Gotham City. Tickets available Oct. 1-30. Advance tickets $6 for ages 3-12, $8 ages 13-18.     Haunted High Street: 4-7 p.m. High Street in Moorpark. “Fun activities for people of all ages, including costume contest at 6 p.m. Halloween carnival, trunk or treat, pumpkin patch and more. Free. Small fee for carnival. www.moorparkca.gov/765/Haunted-High-Street.

    Oak Park has its own Halloween Carnival from 4-7 p.m at the Oak Park Community Center, 1000 N. Kanan Road. For children aged 12 and younger, this “carnival includes arts and crafts, face painting and more. Free for children under 2 and parents, $5 for children 2-12.     For a month, from October 14-November 12, the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center will be showing The Addams Family play. “Wednesday Addams has grown up and falls in love with a man from a respectable family in this play that takes from the popular television show.
