    Stanley Volunteer Fire Department releases call stats for August 2023

    STANLEY, Va. –  The Stanley Volunteer Fire Department answered 58 calls for the month of August reported Fire Chief Terry A. Pettit, via emailed release. 

    Chief Pettit reported that there were 19 emergency calls, 12 medical calls and 27 non-emergency calls. Total calls for the year so far are 416.

    A breakdown of the calls includes 14 medical calls, seven vehicle accidents, five calls for electrical lines down, four smoke investigations, three calls for trees into houses, three standbys at the Page Valley Fair, two house fires, two calls to remove trees out of roadway, two automatic fire alarms and one call each for fill dunking tank, water emergency, fire safety presentation, pickup fire, standby fireworks display, lock out, water softball field, control burn, animal rescue, LP gas leak, standby control burn, grass fire, odor investigation, standby tractor pull, standby truck pull and standby demo derby.

    There were 660.6 miles placed on apparatus and there was no fire damage for the month. 

    The department assisted the Stanley Rescue Squad on 6 calls, Page County EMS on 3 calls, Shenandoah National Park on one call, Luray Rescue Squad on one call and Valley Transport on one call. The department was assisted by the Page County EMS on two calls. One car was totaled due to a vehicle accident.

    An average, 16 members responded to each emergency call and an average of 4 members responded to each medical call. The most members on an emergency call were 22, and the least was 7.  

    Members responding to the most emergency calls were Chief Pettit, 19; Ethan Knight, 17; Bruce Stoneberge,r 15;Mitch Martin, 13; Jason Pettit, 13; Jason Housden, 12; Colin Huffman, 12; Jason Sours, 11; Brennan Stoneberger, 11; Jacob Martin, 11; Caleb Purdham, 11; Zach Croft 10, and  Justin Foltz 10.

    Members answering the most medical calls were Chief Pettit 9; J.T. Long, 5 and Bruce Stoneberger, 3.

    Members answering the most non-emergency calls were Chief Pettit, 14; Ethan Knight 8; Darnell Owens, 7; J.T. Long 6; Brennan Stoneberger, 6; Justin Foltz, 5; Jason Housden, 5; Colin Huffman, 5; and Jason Pettit, 5.
